Aurora College Workshops

Aurora College is an online selective school for regional and remote students across NSW. Students join their Aurora extension classes while still attending their local schools for the rest of their learning. Twice a year, the students get to spend time together in person at a Residential Camp.

Consensus was part this year’s Aurora Residential Camp in Sydney to deliver two half-day workshops for year 9 and year 10 students, on Wednesday 8 May. It was our second time at an Aurora Residential, having delivered debating workshops at their camp in 2022.

This year’s workshops introduced the students to the importance of critical thinking in analysing the world around them. The students explored limitations in human perception caused by cognitive biases, how to identify and avoid logical fallacies, and the difference between correlation and causation.

Through analysis of historical and contemporary real-world issues and examples, the students also examined how human behaviour can be influenced by public policy in society. The students enthusiastically engaged in the workshop, particularly throwing themselves into creative, problem-solving activities where they worked in teams and presented their ideas to the classroom.
